The Sketch Collective is an art studio specializing in teaching the fundamentals of drawing to San Francisco children. We customize the program to each child, yet strive for teaching the essential skills of capturing the world around us through art. We provide a positive environment for school-age children to learn discipline and focus and the ability to see both the complexities and simplicity of their surroundings. All of our teachers are working artists, and possess the "three E's": they are energetic, encouraging and enthusiastic.
We are located between the Jordan Park and Lone Mountain neighborhoods, with convenient street and metered parking, and easy access via the Muni 38 bus line. For these drop-off classes, there are numerous coffee shops, retail stores and restaurants within walking distance for the parents to take a break during class time -- as well as nearby playgrounds, parks and family restaurants to visit after class.
We offer classes year round, in 8 or 10 week sessions in the Fall, Winter and Spring, and a special session of camps in the Summer. Our summer camps often include one field trip to a local site such as the de Young Museum, the Legion of Honor or the Jewish Contemporary Museum. We also use our field trips to practice our drawing skills in places of interest such as the Japanese Tea Garden, the Conservatory of Flowers and the Presidio.
Most weekends, we hold short workshops in drawing, crafts, jewelry and other specialties, and, when time permits, photo walks and museum trips for children. Often we have one-day camps focusing on the work of particular artists, where we visit their art in museum shows or outdoor settings.
To enroll, you may call us at 415-762-0727, or email us at email@example.com. UPDATE: Due to the unsustainable rent increases and the moves of several of our teachers, we have left the rental studio on Geary Boulevard and begun to shift focus to private lessons and portfolio preparation only. We will update all of you on our email list when we have more information as to where/when/how that will happen!
